6th November, London: P1 Marine Foundation has announced the winner of its autumn photography competition which invited amateur photographers to share their favourite images of the coast on Instagram by tagging.

The winning coastal photograph was taken by Sarah Mitchell from Redruth in Cornwall who said; “With all the images that were entered I am over the moon that my photo of the Cornish coast was picked as the winner. Even more so as this is the first national competition I have entered. I just keep smiling! I love taking photos as very often we don't remembers days we remember moments. Having the coast so accessible, either the north or the south, it is rare to have a week when we don't visit. When I took the photo, it was one of those rare times when we were alone on the beach, just me and my dog, celebrating the fact that September is over, Autumn is here and we can walk on our favourite beaches once again. Embracing the sea air, the space and openness of the coast, the delight in my dog doing what she loves was a moment that made me feel very happy just to be.”

The photo was selected by professional photographer Mari Eesmaa, owner of Pinkgraphy who commented: “The beautiful autumnal coast has been captured perfectly in this photo. The composition is excellent and the excitement of the subject is palpable. The warm tones make me want to be on that beach”

Sarah will receive a SONY Xperia™ Z3 waterproof phone – perfect for her next visit to the beach!

The competition was designed to inspire people to protect the marine and coastal environment by highlighting its beauty, biodiversity and its importance. The Foundation will be launching its third photography competition in spring 2016.
